Influences

My designs combine influence from the weapons of both eastern and western cultures. I am fascinated by the enigmatic craft of the Japanese Sword. My knives and swords often show characteristics of Japanese weapons, such as the Tanto point and Tsuka-style handle wrap. Along with the recurves, raised clips, and handle shapes made popular by American bladesmiths.

I also take a lot of inspiration from things other than knives, such as architecture, nature, automobiles, and classical art. I recommend that every aspiring bladesmith not strictly glean design influence from other knives but observe and be inspired by other subjects as well. Keep your eyes and mind open. Then you will be able to create something unique.

Education

I grew up surrounded by the craft of knife making, so I've always been familiar with edged tools and weapons. I learned most of what I know about bladesmithing from Mastersmith Jason Knight (Dad). I have also learned so much from other masters of the craft, such as Adam DesRosiers, and Steve Schwarzer.

Other things

I love being creative through many different mediums, drawing and character art being foremost. I have filled dozens of sketchbooks with warriors, dragons, ships, and countless weapons. I have loved to draw for as long as I can remember. I have designed commissioned artwork and logos in the past, although it is not something I am pursuing professionally.

I've explored many other creative outlets, including sculpting, painting (oil, watercolor, acrylic), kitbashing, and nerf gun modding. I like to try something at least once if I am interested in it.
